Who Wrote Psalm 119?

Psalm 119, also known as the Alfa-Beta, is my favorite Psalm. It is a moving tribute to the beauty of the mitsvot and the enthralling experience of Torah study. Boasting 176 verses, Psalm 119 also happens to be the longest chapter in the entire Bible.

Despite its inspiring content and exquisite form, Psalm 119 is one of the "orphan psalms"; in other words, unlike many other chapters in the Book of Psalms that begin with phrases like "A Song of David", the author of Psalm 119 did not incorporate his name into the text of the chapter.

The Rabbis of the Talmud and Midrash, followed by Rashi and Radaq, maintain that Psalm 119 was composed by King David. This should come as no surprise, since there are other instances of "orphan psalms" that we know were penned by David (take, for example, Psalm 105, and the commentaries there).

By contrast, Ibn Ezra (as well as many modern scholars, some of whom are cited in Daat Miqra's commentary to the chapter) suggests that this Psalm may actually have been written by an unknown individual who lived during the Babylonian Exile. Some even attribute the Psalm to Ezra the Scribe.

Because of my partiality to Psalm 119, I have long been intrigued by the question of its authorship. I would like to offer what I believe are compelling pieces of evidence in support of the traditional position that King David was, in fact, responsible for Psalm 119:

1) The structure of the Psalm, in which the first letters of the verses follow an alphabetical acrostic, is found only in psalms explicitly attributed to King David.

2) Throughout the Book of Psalms, only King David refers to himself (or is referred to) as "Your servant" when addressing Hashem. This phraseology appears in Psalm 119 several times.

3) The phrase "Pneh elai v'honeni" - turn to me and show me favor - is found only in Psalms composed by David, and appears in Psalm 119.

4) Only in Psalms by King David are the commandments referred to as "pekudim"; this terminology is employed in Psalm 119 as well. (There is one exception to this rule, Psalm 111, but it is also an "orphan psalm" that shows signs of being the work of King David.)

5) The author of Psalm 119 states that noblemen sit around and talk about him, and that he speaks of Hashem's testimonies in the presence of kings. This certainly indicates that the Psalmist was not a commoner, but a king, i.e., David.

6) The themes of Psalm 119 bear a striking resemblance to the words of King David in Psalm 19, "The Torah of Hashem is perfect, restoring the soul, the testimony of Hashem is trustworthy, making the simpleton wise, etc., etc." They are also reminiscent of Psalm 18, ""For I guarded the ways of Hashem, and did not commit evil before my God; For all of His laws are before me, and His statutes I shall not remove from myself." Also compare Psalm 25, "Hashem, make known to me Your ways, teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation." And Psalm 86, "Teach me, Hashem, Your ways; I shall walk in Your truth; unify my heart to fear Your name." I am sure that there are more examples of this motif that are not coming to mind right now. However, these sentiments do seem to be uniquely Davidic in nature.

7) Psalm 119 uses the phrase "Ger Anochi Baaretz" ("I am a stranger in the land"). This kind of expression appears only one other time in Psalms - namely, in Psalm 39, which is openly attributed to King David. The same is true regarding "Shiviti Mishpatecha", a phrase in Psalm 119 that closely resembles "Shiviti Hashem L'negdi Tamid" found in Psalm 16. Examples like this are simply too numerous to list here.

8) Psalm 119 describes experiences of suffering - being unjustly pursued, etc. - that are strongly reminiscent of the travails of King David as characterized elsewhere in Psalms and in Nach.

Considered together, these observations seem to provide a very strong (if not incontrovertible) argument in favor of the traditional view that King David was the author of Psalm 119.

  1. Rashi has an interesting commentary on verse 33:
    הוֹרֵנִי [ה'], דֶּרֶךְ חֻקֶּיךָ;וְאֶצְּרֶנָּה עֵקֶב.

He explains the word "`eqebh" and it is another place where Rashi gives us the Old French equivalent. If you have the text of his comment on this verse, in Hebrew, I should like to see it.

  4. Thank you so much for your insightful research and observations. We have been studying Psalm 119 and one of the opinions I was taught about the possible authorship was that it was penned by the worshipers that King David had employed to worship both day and night as they were caught up by the glory of God's Law. What's your thoughts on this?

    1. Let's see:

      II Samuel Ch.8:1-14

"In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the control of the Philistines.David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute. Moreover, David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument at[n] the Euphrates River. 4 David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers[o] and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses. When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them.He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.

David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. From Tebah[p] and Berothai, towns that belonged to Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of bronze.

When Tou[q] king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, he sent his son Joram[r] to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold and of bronze.King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued: Edom[s] and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. He also dedicated the plunder taken from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah. And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites[t] in the Valley of Salt.He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went."

    2. Let's compare that to Jesus according to Matthew Ch. 27:

"Then he released to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him unto them to be crucified. Then the soldiers of the governor taking Jesus into the hall, gathered together unto him the whole band; and stripping him, they put a scarlet cloak about him. And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand. And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying: Hail, king of the Jews. And spitting upon him, they took the reed, and struck his head. And after they had mocked him, they took off the cloak from him, and put on him his own garments, and led him away to crucify him. And going out, they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon: him they forced to take up his cross. And they came to the place that is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary. And they gave him wine to drink mingled with gall. And when he had tasted, he would not drink. And after they had crucified him, they divided his garments, casting lots; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: They divided my garments among them; and upon my vesture they cast lots. And they sat and watched him. And they put over his head his cause written: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were crucified with him two thieves: one on the right hand, and one on the left. And they that passed by, blasphemed him, wagging their heads, And saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God, and in three days dost rebuild it: save thy own self: if thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes and ancients, mocking, said: He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him now deliver him if he will have him; for he said: I am the Son of God. And the selfsame thing the thieves also, that were crucified with him, reproached him with....And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying: Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And some that stood there and heard, said: This man calleth Elias. And immediately one of them running took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar; and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. And the others said: Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to deliver him. And Jesus again crying with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost."

Does this sound like his enemies were his footstool?

Now, who is reading their books and who isn't?

BUT if we are to do our research lets use the same book...get your Torah and I'll get my KJV bible because if you come to me with scripture out of anything else we can't reason together. So let that be the first step any other "version" of the Holy Bible is corrupted. So quote me out of the KJV not anything else and we will take your Torah and we will deff talk :)

    1. Unfortunately, you are missing the more basic question. How do we identify the Messiah? In the Hebrew Bible, he is described as accomplishing some very specific objectives, like gathering the Jews into Israel following their exile, rebuilding the Temple, establishing peace on Earth, leading all of mankind to a recognition of the One God, etc. As of today, none of these have occurred. Not a single one. So there is no reason to believe that anyone, past or present, is yet the "Messiah". In fact, anyone who thinks that the Messiah has arrived has quite a bit of explaining to do.

      Delete
    2. No, i don't think i am. the way we identify the Messiah is by what the law and the prophets spoke of him....and its funny how you still have yet to answer my question...and or explain psalms 22 pierced hands and feet.. and the Lord said to my Lord...you good at running people around but the Truth will set ppl free...if its you so be it..if not it will set someone free......BUTTT here we go....

Messiah would be born of the seed of a woman (Gen 3:15, Luke 1:34-35) Obviously because dominion and authority was given to FLESH & BLOOD...sooo he had to come in Flesh and Blood

Messiah would be a descendant of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (Gen 12:3, 17:19, 28:14, Luke 3:23-34). The "promise" given to Abraham and he received it by faith.
Messiah would be a king in the line of Judah (Gen 49:10, John 1:49) the only tribe that didn't forsake David.
Messiah will be a prophet (Deut 18:15-19, John 6:14).
Messiah would be worshipped by angels (Deut 32:43, Luke 2:13-14). When He brought the first begotten into the World he said and let all the Angles of God worship Him.
Messiah exalted by God with power (1 Sam 2:10, Matt 28:18).
Messiah would be a descendant of David (2 Sam 7:12-16, Matt 1:1). you STILL have yet to answer my question of how David called him Lord if he is his son.
Messiah would be from the tribe of Judah (1 Chron 5:2, Luke 3:23-32).
Messiah would be the Son of God (Ps 2:7, 12, Matt 17:5).
Messiah would be resurrected (Ps 16:8-10, Acts 13:30-37) ALLLLL things under his feet...EVEN DEATH

Messiah would be despised & crucified (Ps 22:6-8, 14, Luke 23:21-23, Matt 27:35)
Messiah would be hated without cause (Ps 69:4, Luke 23:13-22)
Messiah would be Lord, seated at the right hand of God (Ps 110:1,5, 1 Pet 3:21-22)
Messiah would be in the line of Melchizedek (Ps 110:4, Heb 6:17-20)
Messiah would be the 'stone' rejected by the Jews (Ps 118:22, Matt 21:42-43)

Messiah would be from everlasting (Prov 8:22-23, John 17:5)
Messiah would be the Son of God (Prov 30:4, Matt 3:16-17)
Messiah would be born of a virgin (Is 7:14, Luke 1:34-35)
Messiah would be Immanuel "God with us" (Is 7:14, Matt 1:21-23)
Messiah would be God and Man (Is 9:6, John 10:30)
Messiah would have the 7-fold Spirit upon Him (Is 11:1-2, Matt 3:16-17)
Messiah would heal the blind, lame, deaf (Is 35:5-6, Mark 10:51-52)
Messiah would be proceeded by a forerunner (Is 40:3, Luke 1:17)
Messiah would be a light to the gentiles (Is 42:6, John 8:12)
Messiah would be despised by the Jewish nation (Is 49:7, John 10:20, Matt 27:23)
Messiah would be whipped and beaten (Is 50:6, Matt 26:67, 27:26)
Messiah would die as a guilt offering for sin (Is 53:10, John 18:11)
Messiah would be resurrected and live forever (Is 53:10, Mark 16:16)
Messiah would be God (Jer 23:6, John 13:13)
Messiah would be a righteous Branch (Jer 23:5)
Messiah would be our righteousness (Jer 23:6, 1 Cor 1:30)
Messiah would appear at the temple (Mal 3:1, Mark 11:15-16)
Messiah's forerunner would come in the spirit of Elijah (Mat 4:5, Matt 3:1-2)

i can go allll day do your research and when you do it. Do it out of the KJV Bible as i said everything else thats the Old and New testament together and is not the KJV is corrupted.

AND THIS is how we identify the Messiah my friend use your own scriptures to see what Messiah is. Not your own words.

      Delete
    3. Just look at the world. That's all the proof we need that the Messiah hasn't come.

Half of your items are totally fabricated. Jeremiah says the Messiah will be God? LOL!

Try learning Hebrew and studying the Bible in its original language. It's an eye opener.

    4. Of course you would...they did it to him and they had him in front of them...how much more those who are blinded..if messiah isn't God then messiah wouldnt be messiah..how isn't that OBVIOUSI..SMH...typical....unbelief...what those who where in the wilderness for 40 years died from...unbelief...or does it not say that? UGHH...Hosea 4:6 ....you say they are fabricated...show me one fabrication...wait how can you...you still have yet to answer any of my questions Ps 110:1 or Ps 22 :16...How can you teach if you yourself are blind...how are you a "teacher of Isreal" and know not these things.....my friend" KISS the son" or does it not say that in your scripture...ps 2...or is that another psalm you choose to ignore. Is there any of the prophets that you didn't destroy who came in the name of the Lord...I mean dang you didnt believe Moses....you left HIM to go back to your idols......It's.not a surprise, you don't follow your own prophets nor your own laws..how can u see Christ if you won't even believe your our words?

Sorry so bold...it's just I can't understand with alllllll the proof how one can't see THEIR messiah.

He qualified! He did things noooooo other man has done..he .opend the eyes of the blind, raised ppl from the dead. Took away our sins and washed us clean in his blood...Becsuse you know alll things are purged by blood...(especially a sin offering...how many he goats you gotta give for that?? And didn't Moses take blood of caves and hissop and purge the ppl and the tablets? And all the things in the House of God) took our infirmities Ish 53:5-9...it's alll thier the liniage the commandments that statues he spoke of in psalms 119 see he kept them...that was Jesus praying...it's him!

    1. You can show me all the verses in the world to prove that the Earth is flat, and I won't believe it. Trying to determine who the Messiah is in a world that is clearly unredeemed is like trying to determine who the champion is in a tournament that has not yet been played.

Moreover, you clearly do not know Hebrew and have never read the "Old" Testament in its original language, otherwise you would realize that most of the verses you quote are mistranslated or completely taken out of context.

I could spend hours refuting your interpretations and analogies but it would sadly be a waste of time. If you are not able to see something as obvious as the fact that the Messiah hasn't arrived yet, then you won't be able to comprehend the verses properly either.

      Delete
  28. Yet you still have yet to refute ONE.....still waiting.... BUT all you will do is stick with that" u don't know Hebrew and blah blah blah"..if my Bible is wrong then why would u even quote me from it? U see my friend, in quoting from the Bible AS YOU DID, your indirectly stating it's true...or else you wouldnt quote from it OBVIOUSLY...your killing yourself...get off of your high horse...and refute ONE....as u STILLLLLLL can't answer ANY....all your doing is ranting about Hebrew this Hebrew that and that I don't/can't/won't understand...get over it...and if you say you can refute one....THEN DO IT!!! Till you do and prove me wrong, your just talking nonsense...because your own torah/ old testiment scriptures have proven you wrong....REFUTE ONE

  29. Ok i can see that i have been going @ this the wrong way. because "its hard to kick against the priks" its a moot point he has come there is enough proof...if you don't see it it is because you DON'T WANT TO SEE IT

Fact Messiah came died for our sis according to the scriptures; was buried, rose again the THIRDDDDDDDD DAY ACCORDING to the scriptures.(and the 3rd day because according to the Jews the body corrupts after the THIRD DAY and Messiah(Your Holy ONE will see no corruption Psalms 16:10) never saw corruption.

rejoice and be glad because he has given us power NOW in this time. We are just awaiting his return when he will come back. He has given us freedom from sin NOW. Freedom from Depression NOW. FREEDOM from hate NOW!. Freedom from having to serve the flesh and its wants and VANITY NOW!!!!! Freedom from PAIN NOW! Freedom from all mental and physical issues NOW...BBUTTTTTTTTTTT HOSEA 4:6...people WILL chose who to serve. To serve themselves and VANITY and ultimately lies and the father of lies and condemn themselves and allow all the lies of the World to lead them to the pit. or truth and love and charity and righteousness and the Father of it and will dwell with him in his Love and his power and dominion forever and ever.

I mean you are going to be in one place of eternity ANYWAY because you were created eternal..but its either going to be in heaven with the Father, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the Word of God or in Hell with the devil and his angles.

Red pill or Blue pill bro,

Jesus is the way the Truth and the Life. i mean he said it. and if it wasn't true then he would be a liar and we ALLLL know that God doesn't hear liars. and if God doesn't hear liars how did he do all those miracles and things no one has ever done. and where is his Body? your telling me the apostles lied? and made the story up? sooooo they got themselves killed for something THEY made up.... makes no sense...BELIEVE because it is WRITTEN.. have FAITH because you BELIEVE!

  33. UGGGGGGGHHHH ARE YOU SERIOUS?!? PLEASEEEE show me this "Irrefutibale proof" that you are talking about.Because as I look through this convo YOU STILLLLLLLLLLLLL have yet to answer ANY of my questions, non-the-less REFUTE any of the scriptures that I have opened to you.

Give me something besides what comes out of that fallen human mind or yours which is the SAME THING EVERY ONE ELSE SAYS. Because unlike you I have given you what The Lord says. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.... "Let God be True and every man a liar" (Rom 3:4 KJV)

Your doing what everyone else does..how bout you be bold and say THE TRUTH? Are you scared of what might happen if you do? wouldn't we agree? Are you scared of that? why do you blind yourself from the truth....hummm could it be because YOU CHOOSE TO??

See the "issue" is that people have choice "free will". They will do what they want and receive the rewards of their choices. Your "Irrefutibale proof" is nothing more than the issue of free will...EVERYONE has free will and can choose to do good or to do evil cling to the Light or not and thus falling into darkness.

BUT one day there will be time no longer to "HAVE A CHOICE" there will be no more "Free Will" because that which is unseen will be relieved and there will be time no longer to believe or not for it WILL BE SEEN, and at time it will be to late for those who are UNBELIEVING to have a chance to believe through faith...for the JUST shall live by Faith (Habakkuk 2:4 KJV) (Rom 1:17KJV)

I mean My father Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness...he had Faith..or do i need to remind you of Issac and the promises God gave to Abraham that he received through FAITH.

BUT, THAT day will come as a thief in the night, The skies will depart and will be rolled back like a scroll and the Holy One of Israel, The Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and the Ending, The One who Was and Is and Is To Come, the ALMIGHTY."Wonderful, Counseller, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Jesus The Messiah the Christ the ANOINTED ONE Isaiah 9:6KJV) Will descend from heaven with flames of fire with his Saints and his Holy Angles and there will be no more chance to "guess" or to have the ability to exercise your free will because EVERYONE WILL SEE, as it is written in the book of the prophet Zechariah, "They will look upon me whom they have pierced" (Zechariah 12:10 KJV) sounds like (Psalms 22:16 KJV) "They pierced my hands and feet" BY THE WAY...who else besides Jesus was this done to?? NOT DAVID..even though he spoke it???? AND AT THAT TIME...Jesus, Whom God has Highly exalted and to whom he has given the name above all names; every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:11-12) KJV)

  34. you see your proof is based on a misunderstanding of evil....and choice.

you see "Evil" doesn't exist; just as what we call "darkness" and "cold" don't exist...

you see, "Darkness" is the absence of light...you can't make a dark room any darker...

and "cold" is the absence of heat...you can't get any colder than absolute zero...or didn't you learn these things?

GEZZZZ its not my fault that you were created in his image (Gen 1:26 KJV) Its not my fault that you are so much more powerful and stronger than you could ever imagine. Its not MY fault that "Death and Life are in the power of the tongue" (prob 18:21 KJV) and that "Ye are gods and are all children of the most High" (Psalms 82:6) Its not my fault that the Lord through Moses gave us a choice between blessings and curses, or did you forget that (Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV). Its not MY FAULT that mankind doesn't know who they are supposed to be like and are LAZY and CHOOSE to not get KNOWLEDGE and because they have know perish(Hosea 4:6 kjv) and that they don't want to take the RESPONSIBILITY and the RIGHT to do what Their God has commanded them (Gen 1:28 KJV) and that mankind CHOOSES to give that power to satan and to obey sin and the Father of lies...

UGHHHHHHHHHH O JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM, THOU THAT KILLEST THE PROPHETS, AND STONEST THEM WHICH ARE SENT UNTO THEE, HOW OFTEN WHOULD I HAVE GATHERED THY CHILDREN TOGETHER, EVEN AS A HEN GETHERETH HE CHICKENS UNDER HER WINGS, ANDDDDD YEEEEE WOULDDDD NOTTTTT!

  35. Bro I know world here sucks when it's bad. But Look how goodit is when it goes accroding to his plan..I'm talking about the individual....because time and chance happens to every one..isn't that what solomon said??? So the individual has to be reborn in mind body soul and heart,no? Of course. Now,in those times and chances it displays the heart of that individual. the way it shows the individual to be.... It's the heart of what matters bro!!! Look it's the heart that has to be changed. When the heart is changed it changes how we think. We change how we think it changes our actions on a sittuation that action is formed by a character and that character will shape your destiny. You are ERERNAL!!! Soooooory to inform you! So your either going to eternally in image of the lord you follow...either the Lord of heaven and earth by the way you obye him and keep his commandments which is to believe in Jesus Christ which is the way the truth and the Life. Or, the lord of the earth by the way you obye him and keep his commandments, which everyone one knows because everyone has done it. SIN. which leads to death...but you see Jesus Christ destroyed all of his works on the cross And did not only in this world but that which is to come...."ALL TGINGS UNDER HIS FEET" psalms 110 AGAIN..(Cor 2:13-15 KJV) "And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."..it's just pp don't wanna humble themselves and realize that He is God and we are mere flesh and bone created by him for him to shows his work in us for his glory and satisfaction. They don't humble, He can't work. And if He can't work you will be left to yourself, left to yourself...im mean anyone would perish. And if they don't know that all things where delivered to Jesus and Jesus gave llife (reconciliation to Life) for those who believe in him. Then how can they be saved from themselves?
The lord who u follow will be the lord who u imetate the lord who you imetate will be your finale destination...broo let God be true!!!,and every man a liar!! (Psalms 2:12 KJV) "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him"

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why am I quoting it more than you?

    ReplyDelete
  38. You must agree that the world is unredeemed, since you await the "second coming" of your "messiah". What I am saying is that the very fact that the world is unredeemed proves that the Messiah hasn't come, so there is really no need to quote and twist hundreds of verses of Scripture out of context to try to prove that he did. It is a waste of time for me to refute your citations because anyone who studies these verses properly will know that your interpretations are incorrect, and for those unable to study for themselves, you will generate more and more spurious "proofs" anyway, so we might as well quit while we're ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Who are you to say the world is unredeemed your not God? YOUR not the one who gets to say ppl are redeemed or not...Ppl who receive the redemption in Christ Jesus are redeemed by his blood. THUS SAITH THE LORD! He was the sacrifice that was accepted..."Then verily the first [covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein [was] the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service [of God].But into the second [went] the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and [for] the errors of the people:The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;[Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption [for us].For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

    ReplyDelete
  40. And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions [that were] under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament [is], there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. For a testament [is] of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.Whereupon neither the first [testament] was dedicated without blood.
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
Saying, This [is] the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
[It was] therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Hebrews 9 KJV).

Also who are you to say anyone is unable to study...you haven't said ANYTHING...AGAIN TELL ME WHAT YOUR GOD SAYS!!!

AGAIN CHOICE!! ppl who decide to humble themselves and say "God your right om wrong" recieve the redemption are redeemed those ego CHOOSE not to are not. HELLO! Stop being a hater on your own God bro.

As I was reading, I remembered that David was called as "a man after GOD's own heart". I can't help but relate that GOD's WORD is GOD's heart.

In a lot of Psalms of David he was very vocal of how HE loved GOD's WORD. JESUS is GOD's WORD. HE was after JESUS.

  46. 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]:)
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. 19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by [them that are] no people, [and] by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.
21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people. (Romans 10 KJV)

    To Rabbi Maroof,
I believe Jesus is the Messiah. The difference between you and people like me is faith in the Son of God and in His word. I don't know how much of the New Testament you have read, but it is primarily written by one of your own, Paul. If he and the other apostles had to cook something up and then give their lives for it, they must have been stark crazy or raving mad. I urge you to have the courage to read C.S. Lewis and Lee Strobel & see it for yourself. Jesus is the Messiah - and that is a truth that cannot be changed by one's belief or unbelief. Blessings!

But this is The Covenant that I Will make with the house of Israel after those days, says The LORD: I Will put My Law in their minds, and write It on their hearts; and I Will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know The LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says The LORD. Hebrews 9:16-28 "For where there is a Testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a Testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Therefore not even the First Covenant was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to The Law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both The Book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of The Covenant which God has commanded you.” Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. And according to The Law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of The True, but into Heaven itself, now to appear in The Presence of God for us; not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another - He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation."

    Exodus 15:17-21…
“You will bring them in and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which You have made for Your own dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, which Your Hands have established. The LORD shall reign forever and ever. For the horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21 And Miriam answered them: Sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!”

    2 Kings 19:1-37 (Hezekiah) / Isaiah 37:1-38
    Isaiah 38:1-6, 9, & 19-20…
“In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live. Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD, and said, ‘Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.’ And Hezekiah wept bitterly. And the word of the LORD came to Isaiah, saying, ‘Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: ‘I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.”’ This is the writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness: The living, the living man, he shall praise You, as I do this day; the father shall make known Your truth to the children. The LORD was ready to save me; therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life, in the house of the LORD.”

The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: ‘Do not fear, Zion, let not your hands be weak.
    The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.’ I will gather those who sorrow over the appointed assembly, who are among you, to whom its reproach is a burden. Behold, at that time I will deal with all who afflict you;
I will save the lame, and gather those who were driven out; I will appoint them for praise and fame in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will bring you back, even at the time I gather you; for I will give you fame and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I return your captives before your eyes,’ Says the LORD.’”

    2Chronicles 20:17-22…
“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.” And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high. So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: ‘Praise the LORD, for His mercy endures forever.’ Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.”
    Psalm 46: (partial)
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed; The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah… Come, behold the works of the LORD, He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Then He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send The Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with Power from on high.’ And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His Hands and Blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He Blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into Heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.”

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of The Lord and from The Glory of His Power, when He comes, in that Day, to be Glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe because our testimony among you was believed.”

  84. Vesom Sechel. "Vesom" means "and to establish." "Sechel" means "perception - insight." "Vesom Sechel" means "and establish unusual insight into something."

The unusual insight is this: Ezra wrote Psalm 119. Bible verses must be put together - like a puzzle - to confirm the message of this e-mail.

Ezra was a scribe in Babylon during the Hebrew captivity. Ezra was the "son" of Seraiah.
But Seraiah lived about 100 years before Ezra. Generations were longer then - compared to
generations today. So Seraiah was the grandfather of Ezra.

Ezra wrote Psalm 119 to preserve the purity of the Hebrew language. Ezra wrote Psalm 119
in short units - to help the Hebrew people memorize the psalm.

When Nebuchadnezzar let the Hebrew people return to Jerusalem - Ezra went with them. This
psalm is a song that the Hebrews sang by heart as they returned to Jerusalem. Then Ezra
wrote the Book of Ezra - inspiring Nehemiah to do the most necessary thing: to build the
walls before they rebuilt the city. The walls represent protection.

Let us look at the first eight verses of Psalm 119. "Aleph" means "ox" - which represents strength. Verse 1 talks about walking in the way - walking in the law of the Lord. Verse 2 says: "seek the Lord." This is more important than seeking the physical
destination - Jerusalem. Verse 3 says to us: ""Walk in His ways." Verse 4 says: "Keep His precepts." Psalm 119 is already memorized within you. You are saturated with this psalm. Verse 5 talks about the Lord's ways - that guide you on life's journey. Verse 6
says to you ex-captives: "Do not be ashamed." Verse 7 talks about praise. This is what the Hebrews are doing on the way back to Jerusalem. Their city is destroyed - but the people are filled with praise. Verse 8 says that the Lord will not forsake His people.
The people believe that they will rebuild Jerusalem. "Bayth" means "house." When you study these eight verses - notice how the author emphasizes "being within." His Word is in my heart. His Word is in my mouth. Meditation is within me. I am delighted to be in
His instruction. When you study Psalm 119 - see yourself walking from Babylon to Jerusalem - from captivity to freedom. Think freedom. Think praise.

Are you going to preach - or - teach Psalm 119? Life is a journey of freedom. Life faces
challenges in your future. The Lord will enable you to always build. Are you not going to preach or teach Psalm 119? Then anyone who is suffering can feel your aura - your vibrations of joy.

This is the purpose of Ezra - who wrote Psalm 119 - and who walks within you now - in your journey of life.

Psalm 119 was important to Martin Luther King. He believed in the Freedom March. He believed in the Waiting Challenge. He believed in the Lord who enables us to encounter the challenge - and rejoice.

Writing a journal to deny that Jesus Christ is the Messiah is a waste of time; in this scope, there are many Messianic Jews to whom God is real (Deuteronomy 6:4).

Finally, whether you believe it not, John 1:12 is true and so is John 14:6.
